Confirmation

Confirmation is you affirming for yourself the vows made by your parents and godparents at your baptism.

Consciously making the promises of a Christian disciple for the rest of your life confirms the power of the Holy Spirit in us. Confirmation usually takes place in one of the churches of our Team Ministry at a very special service led by our Bishop.

If you are interested in being Confirmed you need to be

1. At least ten years old
2. Prepared to explore your faith and what it means to be a Christian
3. Ready to join us for worship

Separate groups are provided for young people and adults.

We welcome all those who wish to be baptised or who would like their children baptised at either St Benedict Biscop or the Venerable Bede..

What is Baptism ?

Baptism marks the beginning of our journey with God, a journey that continues for the rest of our lives.

Where and when do services of baptism take place ?

At St Benedict Biscop and the Venerable Bede Baptism can be part of a service of Holy Communion or it can be a service by itself.

Most of our Baptism services are on a Sunday afternoon and are specifically designed to meet the needs of families and friends who are coming to celebrate a child's entry into our Church and the Christian faith. We know that some people are unfamiliar with church services and so we try to make the service as helpful, open and friendly as possible.

Getting Ready

All parents ( and prospective godparents if they wish) are asked to attend a baptism preparation evening which is held at the Wombourne Institute next to St Benedict Biscop Church.

During our Baptism Preparation Evening, we reflect on the meaning and purpose of Baptism, talk about how our churches work with children and young people and help parents feel comfortable and confident with our service.

Our Baptism Preparation Evenings are usually on the first Tuesday of the month, they start at 8.00pm and, last about an hour. Both parents are expected to attend.
